Fast Food
As a child, fast food was never
really a regular part of my family’s life.
My mom would cook all of our meals, from breakfast to dinner. Fast food was more like a treat, even though
I remember going to a restaurant ever Sunday after church to get breakfast/lunch. But as far as fast food, we would
occasionally go to McDonald’s, which I remember ordering a chicken nugget kids
meal until I was old enough to order regular meals. Other times we would go to Taco Bell and I
would order either a hard or soft taco along with a bean and cheese
burrito. That was until I tried the
nachos and fell in love with them, then I would order both nacho and one of the
other items. As I started getting older
and was working, I noticed that 50% of my meals were eaten out. Fast food soon became a part of my normal
routine because it was and still so easy to grab when you’re always on the
go. When I was working at Target, most
of the time I would arrive to work early just so I can have something to eat
there, especially if my friends happen to go on break or lunch around that time. If I worked the opening shift, I would
sometimes eat two meals there, breakfast and lunch. On occasion, I would even grab something from
the food court just to snack on. I think
that was probably what contributed to my bad eating habits.
As a single adult living on my
own, fast food has became a part of my daily lifestyle. Don’t get me wrong I know how to cook it’s
just that I’ve become accustomed to eating out for most of my meals. It’s a lot
easier and cheaper than having to cook for one.
But within the last 2 years, I’ve started to become more aware of what I
put in my mouth. I now look at calories,
carbs and the fat content of items I order from fast food places. Since I discovered Fresh and Easy, which was
within the last 6 months, I started to cook at least one meal a day for myself,
whether it’s taking lunch with me to work or cooking dinner. I’ve noticed such a big change within
myself. I’ve lost weight which was the
main reason why I started to cook for myself.
When you cook for yourself, you know how and what was used to prepare
your food. Now sometimes when I eat fast
food I can feel it. I will start to feel
so sluggish and just not like myself. I
hope that I will come to a point in my life to where I won’t want to eat any
fast food. I think I am still a long way
from that, but that is my ultimate goal.
Until then, I will continue to be aware of what I order and try to aim
to order from the healthier side of the menu, even though I know there is no
real healthy side of fast food.
I dont go to taco bell often but when I do I like to get the nachos as well. I just cant help it.

ReplyDeleteDefinitely homemade food is way better than what we eat at any fast food restaurant. But, I understand that like you said our lifestyle just force us sometimes to eat whatever we can. And especially you I guess it must be even harder just to cook for yourself, it’s a lot easier and cheaper to just go and eat out.
